REGISTERED LEGAL EXECUTIVE

I have worked for law firms much of my working life starting as an office junior ‘way back when’, before progressing to secretarial work and then gaining my legal executive qualification some 30 years ago. I have worked for law firms locally, in Auckland and in Melbourne, Australia.
My passion has always been conveyancing (as I enjoy the structure that conveyancing brings) although I have also worked in the mortgagee sale field (major Bank as sole client) and I have also worked in the legal team for a large company that owns retirement villages throughout New Zealand.
I consider myself to be a “people” person. I enjoy interacting and assisting my clients wherever possible.
I am married with two adult children and 4 grandchildren. I enjoy swimming, walking, gardening, camping, travel, and spending time with family and friends.
REGISTERED LEGAL EXECUTIVE

I decided in 1996, when completing Legal Studies in sixth form (year 12) at Waitakere College in West Auckland, that I wanted to work in law. Between 1998 and 2011, I worked in two general practice law firms in Auckland before making the move to Whangarei in 2011, following my husband who had started his own business here. I worked with a local Chartered Accountant and for a homewares store for a time and it was 3 years before I was offered a position working with a highly regarded Barrister Sole.
I have worked with Mathews & Associates since December 2021 and feel like I have found my niche. I enjoy working with the team here and predominantly work with our Director, Chris Perry, assisting in relationship property agreements, where I am hugely involved in guiding and assisting people through the process of reaching satisfactory and fair agreements.
I am a proud Southerner originally hailing from Dunedin, though have lived most of my life away from the region, it’s still “home”. During my free time I enjoy spending time at home with my family reading, though quiet is not easily found in our house with a husband, two young children, 3 dogs and 2 cats. I also enjoy spending time relaxing with friends and family, trying my hand at gardening and travelling.
LEGAL SECRETARY

Marianne is a valued member of the Mathews & Associates team, supporting our legal services as a Legal Secretary. On Mondays she is the friendly face at reception, warmly welcoming clients and assisting with enquiries. As Carolyn’s assistant, Marianne plays a key role in ensuring our operations run smoothly and efficiently. Since joining the firm in October 2023 Marianne has assisted with a variety of legal matters including conveyancing, Trusts, Wills, and Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPOAs). She also supports Nicky with the management of the firm’s Trust Account, helping to ensure compliance and accuracy in all trust-related transactions.
Outside of work hours Marianne is studying part-time toward her Legal Executive Diploma, further developing her skills and knowledge to support her role. With strong attention to detail, a commitment to learning, and a focus on client care, Marianne contributes meaningfully to the smooth running of the firm and helps maintain the high standard of professionalism Mathews & Associates is known for.
LEGAL SECRETARY

I have been a part of the team here at Mathews & Associates for nearly a year now, bringing enthusiasm for both collaboration and personal growth. With a passion for connecting with people, I thrive in a role that allows for meaningful interactions and effective communication. Always eager to learn, I believe I have quickly developed a solid understanding of the field I now work in and am continually seeking new opportunities to expand my knowledge and expertise.
Outside of the office, I like to play hockey, enjoying the competitive spirit that the sport brings. This active lifestyle mirrors my professional demeanour – focused, willing and always striving to improve. With a deep interest in the industry I work in, I am excited to continue growing and taking on new challenges, with a commitment to both personal and professional development. Whether it's on the turf or in my workplace, I will approach each challenge with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
LEGAL SECRETARY

I have always had a background in administration and have worked in several areas of business including Real Estate and legal affairs. I now assist our team in the areas of Conveyancing, Wills, EPOA’s and Estates.
I have lived in Whangarei most of my life and have two amazing boys (now adults). I enjoy fishing, camping and four-wheel driving with my husband.
